Shri Sanatan Hindu Mandir and Osterley Park

Visit Date: 18 June, 2025

We leave Ashtead Peace Memorial Hall at 8.45  and travel first to Shri Sanatan Hindu Mandir, Wembley.

This magnificent Hindu Temple occupying a site of 2.4 acres, is in the suburb of Wembley and was opened in 2010.    It took 14 years to carve the figures in Indian Sandstone.  The carvings were made in a small village in Gujarat and shipped to the UK for assembly.  Images are derived from Hindu legends.   210 pillars depict events from Hindu Scriptures.  There are 11 Temples, 29 smaller Sandums, depicting 41 Deities. The Temple dimensions are 182 ft x 115 ft, with two Domes reaching 66 ft in height.

The whole structure is self-supporting using no bolts or Ironwork.  Iron is considered inauspicious in Hindu culture; therefore only copper, silver or gold are permitted for decoration.

There are no refreshments at the Temple.  We therefore suggest that you bring a drink for the morning.  Lunch and refreshments are available at Osterley Park.

We should arrive at Osterley Park shortly after 12.00 noon (National Trust or RHS membership for entrance).   Lunch is available or you can picnic in the extensive gardens.

From humble Tudor beginnings the house at Osterley Park was transformed by architect Robert Adam for the Child banking family during the late 18th Century.  The home was transformed into a magnificent neo-classical, fashionable party house for entertaining clients, friends and family.

We have free-flow time to spend in the beautiful house and around the gardens.   Our Coach will depart at 4.00.

Cost £40pp (excluding lunch and refreshments)
